The Dallas Cowboys “buy” Cowboys.com for $275.00

Seeking to increase their online visibility, the Cowboys were bidding on the domain name cowboys.com at an auction in Hollywood, Fla. But something went amiss – as in the final price.
What they thought was a winning bid of $275 was actually missing three zeroes to the right.
That $275,000 bill was a shock.
Brett Daniels, the team’s director for client services and corporate communications, confirmed the team had the winning bid.
However, after the organization discovered the domain name was for six-figures, it asked the seller if the sale could be voided. The seller of cowboys.com agreed because the Cowboys said there was a misunderstanding of the rules.
Currently, cowboys.com is a Web site devoted to buy, sell or search for clothes, cattle, horses, saddles and Western decor. The team’s official Web site is dallascowboys.com.
