PETA Lacks Class with Urn Ads

What would you do if you found out that you were dying from cancer? As a capitalist, you might decide to sell advertisements on your cremation urn. At least, that’s what you would do if you were comedian Aaron Jamison.
Jamison has been diagnosed with colon cancer. It’s not the first time that he has battled the disease. However it looks like this time the cancer is going to win. He has just a few months left according to his doctors. Jamison doesn’t want to leave his wife with outstanding funeral costs so he decided to try to raise some money by selling ad space on his urn.
You can’t fault the guy for his efforts. And they were successful. He managed to earn more than the $800 that was his goal from this sale. You do have to wonder how $800 is possibly going to cover all of his end-of-life and after-death expenses, though.
And you have to wonder what animal rights organization PETA was thinking when they decided that they would participate in this endeavor by purchasing $200 worth of ad space. PETA selected two ads for the urn:
- “I’ve Kicked the Bucket–Have You? Boycott KFC.”
- "People Who Buy Purebred Dogs Really Burn Me Up. Always Adopt.”
Yes, these ads do raise awareness about some serious animal rights issues that PETA is working to solve. But how tacky can you get?! PETA’s justification is this:
“By raising awareness about the suffering of both homeless dogs and chickens who are killed for KFC restaurants, Aaron will continue to save lives long after he is gone."
What do you think? Should urns be a place where bad puns advertise our causes? Or is this just stupid?

I never ceased to get amazed by people’s marketing creativity.
Dammit, it makes me think of silly bandz for some reason. Great idea – too bad I didn’t think of it.
