Cop Cars Get Repo’d

Earlier this month there was a problem in a small town in Louisiana. The problem was that the police department in this town had bought new cars that it couldn’t actually afford. Ignoring the problems in the economy, they went ahead and made the purchase but then they couldn’t actually make the payments. The two cop cars ended up getting repossessed!

The whole thing happened in Napoleonville which is a small town in Louisiana. The police believed that they were going to receive stimulus money which they could then use to pay for the new vehicles. However they counted their chickens before they hatched. Problems with paperwork caused the money to never come through. The cops were left holding the bag, needing to make car payments that they couldn’t afford.

The mayor of this town explained the problem to the auto dealer. Have you ever tried telling an auto dealer that you just can’t pay for the vehicle that you bought? They treated the police department just like they would treat you; they came over and repossessed the cars. And that’s not all; the car dealer filed a lawsuit seeking $20,000 for his trouble.

There are all too many cases of stupid things happening just because government agencies don’t know how to do their paperwork properly. Everyone passes the buck and payments that should be made never go through. Usually these problems end up affecting employees. In this case, the problem impacted the whole town. The police department not only looks bad but also has fewer vehicles than it needs to get the job done in Napoleonville. Someone better pay the bills next time!
