Isiah Thomas Overdoses – Blaims Daughter
By Just Stupid on Nov 2, 2008 in Stupid People
We interrupt our series of "stupid pictures" to once again bring you Isiah Thomas being stupid. We wrote about Isiah last October, and here he is being stupid again.
Police found a man collapsed on the kitchen floor when they responded to an emergency call at the home of basketball Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, an incident report released Thursday said.
The New York Daily News was among the US media outlets that obtained the report from the town of Harrison, New York.
According to the document, Harrison police officers responded to an emergency call and arrived at Thomas’ home shortly after midnight last Friday.
Police provided oxygen to the patient until an ambulance arrived and took him to hospital.
The report redacted the name and personal information of the patient, but Harrison police chief David Hall said it was a 46-year-old man who had taken 10 Lunesta sleeping pills.
Thomas, who is 47, later said it was his 17-year-old daughter, Lauren, who was rushed to hospital.
Police denied that the patient was a young woman, and Hall said that authorities had closed their investigation last Friday.
"We closed this investigation Friday," Hall told the Daily News. "We deemed it an accidental overdose of sleeping pills. There is absolutely no indication that he tried to kill himself. It was a standard call."
Earlier this week Hall bristled at the suggestion the victim could have been Thomas’s daughter.
"My cops … know the difference between a 47-year-old black male and a young black female," he said. (Gotta love that line!)
Thomas had been fired as coach and team president by the NBA’s New York Knicks last April after the club suffered a seventh consecutive losing season, matching a club record for losses in a season by going 23-59.
Knicks supporters called for Thomas’s ouster, chanting "Fire Isiah" at many home games.
Thomas, 56-108 in two sad seasons coaching the Knicks, remained with the club as a consultant even after he was replaced by Donnie Walsh as president.
Thomas, 47, also faced a sexual harassment suit from a Madison Square Garden employee. His accuser, Anucha Browne Sanders, won a settlement worth 11.6 million dollars.
Poor showings as coach of the Indiana Pacers, an executive with the Toronto Raptors and owner of a minor league that went bankrupt also haunt Thomas, who was inducted in 2000 into the Basketball Hall of Fame for his playing skills.
