A few months back we mentioned here that there are 7 eating contests that are just plain stupid. What we neglected to mention at the time is that there’s also a really stupid cooking contest. We were remiss but we’re back to tell you about it now.

So what is this dumb cooking contest? The Annual World Testicle Cooking Championship, of course.

The competition takes places in a remote village in Serbia. Leading chefs come together to prepare culinary delights made from the testicles of a variety of different animals. That’s right; people try to stomach the balls of bulls and boars, camels and kangaroos and even ostriches. Yes, ostriches have testicles.

The whole event is a big music-rich festival. It’s also rich with wine and beer. Apparently, although some people consider these foods to be delicacies, most need to imbibe a lot of alcohol before they can get past the thought of how gross what they’re consuming is.

The festival has been described as being about “food, fun and bravery”. Yes, they acknowledge that it takes balls to eat balls. They do, however, try to dress up the testicles to make them moderately more appealing. Top dishes include testicle goulash, testicle moussaka, testicle pizza and testicles in bechamel sauce with local herbs.

And who of all people was a winner in this “bravery” contest? U.S. President Barack Obama. He didn’t actually participate in the competition. But one of the special events that is hosted here is a series of awards that are given to people who have been recognized in the news as “ballsy”. President Obama is a ballsy winner for the leadership role he’s taken on during an economic and political period of crisis.
