WalMart Worker Trampled to Death on Black Friday

NEW YORK – A worker died after being trampled by a throng of unruly shoppers when a suburban Wal-Mart opened for the holiday sales rush Friday, authorities said.

At least three other people were injured.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., in Bentonville, Ark., would not confirm the reports of a stampede but said a “medical emergency” had caused the company to close the store, which is in Valley Stream on Long Island.
Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m., an hour after the store opened. The cause of death was not immediately known.

A police statement said shortly after 5 a.m., a throng of shoppers “physically broke down the doors, knocking (the worker) to the ground.” Police also said a 28-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for observation and three other shoppers suffered minor injuries and were also taken to hospitals.

The dead worker’s name was not released.

“Local authorities are looking into the situation,” said Wal-Mart representative Dan Fogleman. But he said it would be “inappropriate for me to share any additional information” until authorities investigate further.

Shoppers around the country lined up early outside stores in the annual bargain hunting ritual known as Black Friday. Many stores open early and stay open late. The Valley Stream Wal-Mart usually opens at 9 a.m.

This is more than “this is stupid” its creepy and hard to understand. Horrendous is the word.. How can you kill a person over a TV? I hope they find these people and do the same to them as they did to this poor guy.

Maybe its time to make it Black Week instead of just Black Friday and perhaps this kind of shopping insanity could be avoided. Workers certainly need danger pay on that day it seems!

(11ALIVE) — Many of the Black Friday Sale circulars will come out officially this weekend but unofficially plenty of them are already floating around cyberspace, and it appears that high tech items will be the big draw on the day after

Maybe they should have tried this site for some last minute gifts instead of going out in public.

I really don’t understand how these things happen. You can blame the people for getting so excited on a few discounts or you can blame Wal-Mart on poor organization. Believe it or not, some people expected to see this kind of behavior and the people from Wal-Mart should have predicted and avoided this from happening.

When you set up logistics like this, well, DUH.

Any place that had a lottery only had injuries from waiting in the cold too long before the store opened.

Just another reason to shop online. Cheaper, no hassle, no driving, no sneezing germ-spewing phlegm-fountains, no screaming kids, no awful Xmas music, no tax.

Here is what you do to get that special item.

Go buy it TODAY. On black friday, take your receipt and the item (sometimes the item isnt required to even be there….and head to the service desk. RETURN the item then have them RE RING the item up at the “special price”.

Anyone that gets up to go fight over this stuff is out of their mind.
