A JC Penney catalog from 1977

Another dilema… does this post belong here or on Just Cool?  Actually it would go best on Just Funny, but we don’t have that website.  Since this is my era and being the sarcastic one that I am… it just has to go on This Is Just Stupid.  But this is no reflection on the blog where this was originally posted — it is just a hoot.

Below is just a taste of what is in store for you if you take the time to click on over to "15 Minute Lunch: Strap in, shut up and hold on. We’re going back."  And if you were alive in the 70’s we strongly recommend that you do!

Last weekend I put an exhaust fan in the ceiling for my wife’s grandfather.  While my wife’s brother and I were fitting the fan in between the joists, we found something under the insulation. What we found was this:

A JC Penney catalog from 1977. It’s not often blog fodder just falls in my lap, but holy hell this was two solid inches of it, right there for the taking.

Here is one of our favorites…

Here’s how to get your ass kicked in high school:

OK head on over to "15 Minute Lunch: Strap in, shut up and hold on. We’re going back."   Lots of laughs.

I received this post in an e-mail at work via forwarding. It was so clever and funny that I had to Google it just to tell you that. Kudos to you.

Hate to tell you this, but dressing like that was NOT the way to “get your ass kicked” in HS in the 70s. First off, any HS kid who ever had occasion to “dress up” (for a date, prom, night-life or whatever) dressed that way. Second, no one “dressed up” for everyday HS purposes, then as now. The standard uniform of jeans + shirt for guys & gals was in effect. You WOULD get your ass kicked for dressing in ways that we now think of as “cool” — e.g. wearing all black, or “retro” threads like skinny neckties & pegged pants. The wacky wear you mock was COOL in the 70s, in context.

Hey M - I went to high school in the 70’s and wore all that apparel. You should see my homecoming picture. We’re just having a little fun with it now.
