There is a new product out on the liquor market. It’s called Devotion Vodka. While it sounds like a vodka that is designed to act as a love potion, it’s actually a drink that is being marketed as a "nutritious" form of alcohol. The thing about Devotion Vodka which sets it apart from any other type of vodka is that this vodka has been infused with protein. Hm.

A protein-infused vodka sounds good at first glance, doesn’t it? In fact, it lends itself well to a terrific marketing campaign that makes it really appealing if you’re not paying too much attention to what it is that you are buying. It is intended to be sold to the people in this country who like to work out and keep and shape but who also like to party. The theory is that you can exercise and then get the protein that you need by drinking cocktails made with this new brand of vodka.

I guess that’s not a terrible idea if you’re already someone who works out and drinks afterwards. But let’s not deceive ourselves here. Vodka isn’t healthy for you even if it’s got some protein added to it. It’s alcohol, plain and simple. It’s designed to get you drunk. If you go work out and then drink a bunch of this vodka what is probably going to happen is that you’re going to get drunk really fast. That’s because you’ve burned off your food intake from earlier in the day and you’re probably a bit dehydrated. Getting more dehydrated with a mind-blurring beverage doesn’t really counterbalance the positive benefits of getting in your protein. Interesting product, yes. Smart product, not so much.
